Oklahoma Lawyers for Children Receives OKDHS Director's Award

OKLAHOMA CAPITOL --- Oklahoma Department of Human Services Director Howard H. Hendrick presented Oklahoma Lawyers for Children with the OKDHS Director’s Award during the Oklahoma Commission for Human Services’ Jan. 29 meeting in Oklahoma City.
Receiving the awards were Don Nicholson II, President, D. Kent Meyers, Vice-President and Secretary and Buddy Faye Foster, Executive Director.

"I’m honored to present the OKDHS Director’s Award to Oklahoma Lawyers for Children," said Hendrick. "And also to all of the volunteers who work with them to assure only the best for the children of the State of Oklahoma."

OLFC is a private not-for-profit organization that represents deprived children in the juvenile courts of Oklahoma County. Many of these children are placed in OKDHS custody. The organization boasts more than 275 of the best attorneys, all volunteering their services to Oklahoma’s children free of charge. The organization also receives volunteer services from paralegals, court reporters and investigators.

In fiscal year 2001, OLFC volunteer attorneys were involved in 417 cases involving more than 900 children, volunteer court reporters provided pro bono depositions in 22 cases, 18 private investigator firms provided countless hours of service and 70 different volunteers visited more than 1000 children.
