OKLAHOMA CAPITOL -- A number of state agencies are joining forces to sponsor the 11th Annual Oklahoma Homeless Conference Oct. 12-13 at the MetroTech Business Conference Center, 1900 E. Springlake Drive, Oklahoma City.
"This should be an excellent training and networking opportunity for the more than 300 service professionals who are expected to attend," said Janelle Arden, Oklahoma Department of Human Services Policy Management and Analysis Programs Administrator. "We believe the conference will help with their daily task and long-range planning as they work with Oklahoma’s more than 45,000 homeless citizens." Arden is currently chairperson of the Governor’s Advisory Committee on the Homeless.
Gloria Cousar, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Public and Indian Housing for the U.S. Housing and Urban Development, will be the keynote speaker.
The Conference theme is "Navigating the Future" and will focus on a 10-year plan to end homelessness as developed by the National Alliance on the Homeless. Conference tracks will include: housing, social and community services, the Continuum of Care, starting and maintaining shelters, and health and mental health services.
Other agencies and organizations co-sponsoring the conference include: Local Oklahoma Bank, Youth Services of Oklahoma County, Oklahoma Department of Commerce, Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse, Oklahoma State Department of Health, Oklahoma Housing Finance Agency, State Department of Education, City of Tulsa, and the Region 6 Office of U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Department.
Oklahoma’s own George Wesley Jr. will be the featured entertainer at the closing luncheon Oct. 13.
Conference pre-registration is $40, if postmarked by Sept. 1, and $45 after Sept. 1. For more information, please call Janelle Arden at (405) 521-4175 or Vaughn Clark at (405) 815-5370.
