STRANDED MOTORIST TEAMS
The Governor authorized the deployment of Oklahoma National Guard to join Stranded Motorist Recovery Teams in north and northeastern Oklahoma. The teams, operating under the direction of the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, consist of approximately 10 Guardsmen each, utilizing Humvees, wreckers, and Light Medium Tactical Vehicles. The teams are based out of Vinita, Chouteau, and Perry, with a fourth team on standby.
The teams wrapped up operations Wednesday afternoon.
ROAD CONDITIONS
According to the Oklahoma Department of Transportation reports slick spots continue to be reported from I-35 east to the Arkansas state line including the Oklahoma City and Tulsa metros. However, northeastern and eastern counties are still considered very hazardous with crews continuing to treat snow packed and icy highways.
Oklahoma Turnpike Authority crews continue operations on turnpikes. Crews continue to plow and treat the Muskogee and Creek Turnpikes for slick spots and some snow packed ramps. All other turnpikes continue to improve with clearing efforts.
Drivers should continue to drive for the conditions and use caution when traveling. Isolated slick spots remain, especially on elevated surfaces such as bridges and overpasses. Some thawing from today's treatment operations is expected and additional isolated slick spots should be anticipated from areas of re-freeze overnight. Both ODOT and OTA crews will remain active until all highways, interstates and turnpikes are considered clear and dry.
Check current road conditions on the interactive travel map at www.okroads.org or through the free Drive Oklahoma mobile app.
