Severe Weather Situation Update

SEVERE WEATHER IMPACTS STATE

The State Emergency Operations Center (EOC) was activated due to severe weather and flooding risk. The Oklahoma Department of Emergency Management (OEM) is in contact with emergency managers across the state and coordinating with agencies and organizations including Oklahoma Highway Patrol, Oklahoma Department of Transportation, Oklahoma Turnpike Authority, Oklahoma State Department of Health, Oklahoma Corporation Commission, Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality, Oklahoma Office of Homeland Security, Oklahoma Department of Agriculture, Food and Forestry, Oklahoma Forestry Services, Oklahoma Insurance Department, Oklahoma National Guard, National Weather Service, Tribal Nations, Oklahoma Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster, and others.

A line of strong to severe thunderstorms moved through central and eastern Oklahoma this morning, producing confirmed tornadoes, damaging winds, and power outages. Localized street flooding was reported. Damage assessments are ongoing in many areas.

RESIDENTS ASKED TO REPORT DAMAGES

To help identify all areas of damage across the state, the Oklahoma Department of Emergency Management is asking residents impacted by severe storms or flooding to report damages to their property at damage.ok.gov. Reporting damage helps local and state emergency managers better coordinate response and recovery efforts and can help connect residents to resources. Residents can report damage to homes, businesses or agriculture through the online survey.

DAMAGE REPORTS

Purcell Fire Department reported a tornado touched down in the City of Purcell, causing widespread power outages, downed trees and power lines, nine homes with roof damage, and a semi rollover accident on I-35 with one injury.

Shawnee Emergency Management reports strong straight-line winds impacted the northern/northwestern parts of the city limits. Damage includes fences down and partial roof loss at the Holiday Inn Express. .

Comanche County Emergency Management reports storm-related damages reported across the City of Lawton, including building roof damage at Sheridan and Lee and power pole and power line damage. Lawton Fire Department responded to a rooftop fire at MacArthur High School caused by wind damage to AC units.

Edmond Emergency Management reports lightning strikes caused a transformer fire near Covell and Kelly. Another lightning strike caused a tree to fall on a vehicle near Covell and Broadway, blocking the road and resulting in an injury accident.

Logan County Emergency Management reports a barn was destroyed by straight line winds north of Guthrie.

Osage County Emergency Management reports structures damaged on the south end of Wynona, including a shop building destroyed and a mobile home damaged.

Damage assessments are ongoing.

POWER OUTAGES

At the height of the storm, Oklahoma Corporation Commission reported more than 7,300 outages statewide.

Currently, there are approximately 3,300 without power, with the highest concentration of outages in Lincoln, Latimer, Oklahoma, and McClain counties.
