Severe Weather Impacts State

November 8, 2024 – 4 p.m.

The Oklahoma Department of Emergency Management (OEM) is in contact with emergency managers across the state and is coordinating with agencies and organizations including the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, Oklahoma State Department of Health, Oklahoma Department of Transportation, Oklahoma Department of Agriculture, Food and Forestry, Oklahoma Office of Faith Based and Community Initiatives, Oklahoma National Guard, Oklahoma Corporation Commission, Oklahoma Office of Homeland Security, Oklahoma Insurance Department, Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality, National Weather Service, American Red Cross, the Salvation Army, Oklahoma Baptist Disaster Relief, and the Oklahoma Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster.

STATE OF EMERGENCY

The Governor’s State of Emergency was amended today to add Adair, Logan, and Muskogee counties. The State of Emergency is now in effect for nine counties due to severe storms, tornadoes, straight line winds, and flooding that began on Nov. 2: Adair, Cleveland, Garvin, Lincoln, Logan, McClain, Muskogee, Oklahoma, and Stephens.

The Executive Order also includes the temporary suspension of size and weight limits for oversized vehicles and equipment responding from out of state to assist with power restoration efforts. Additional counties may be added to the Executive Order if conditions warrant.

RESOURCES AVAILABLE

The following resources are currently available for residents impacted by recent severe weather. Please note that FEMA assistance is not approved for these storms.

The City of Oklahoma City has two tornado outreach offices open Friday, November 3 to help residents affected by the tornadoes access social services. The outreach offices are open 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the following locations:

  • Harmony Christian Church, 7100 S Choctaw Rd.
  • Windwood Free Will Baptist Church, 5300 SE 89th St.

American Red Cross is providing emergency supplies including tarps, gloves, trash bags. Call 1-800-RED CROSS (733-2767)

Life Church in Midwest City has tarps, totes, clean up buckets, bottled water, and more available for pickup at 6809 E. Reno Ave.

Oklahoma Baptist Disaster Relief cleanup crews continue to assist residents in the affected areas. Call 844-690-9198 or visit www.okdisasterhelp.org to request assistance.

Samaritan’s Purse is also assisting residents with debris cleanup needs in affected areas. They are stationed at Wilmont Place Baptist Church at 6440 S. Santa Fe Avenue in Oklahoma City. Volunteers can sign up to help Samaritan’s Purse through November 23. Find more information online.

Oklahoma Human Services is providing Replacement SNAP benefits to families in Adair, Cleveland, Garvin, Lincoln, Logan, McClain, Muskogee, Oklahoma, and Stephens counties. Replacement SNAP benefits can be used by existing SNAP recipients to replace food lost in the storms. To request replacement benefits, complete the "Request for Destroyed Food Replacement" form online and submit it within 10 days of the food loss. Call Oklahoma Human Services at (405) 522-5050 for help.

In Oklahoma County, affected residents can pick up emergency supplies, non-perishable foods, and toiletries at Harrah Church at 101 S. Dobbs Road in Harrah.

RESIDENTS ASKED TO REPORT DAMAGE

Oklahoma Department of Emergency Management continues to ask residents impacted by the storms or flooding to report damages to their property at damage.ok.gov. Reporting damage helps local and state emergency managers better coordinate response and recovery efforts. Residents can report damage to homes, businesses or agriculture through the online survey.
