SEVERE WEATHER IMPACTS STATE
May 20, 2024 – 9 a.m.
As a result of severe weather across the state Sunday night and continuing this week, the State Emergency Operations Center is activated. The Oklahoma Department of Emergency Management (OEM) remains in contact with emergency managers across the state and is coordinating with agencies and organizations including the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, Oklahoma Corporation Commission, Oklahoma State Department of Health, Oklahoma National Guard, Oklahoma Department of Transportation, Oklahoma Office of Homeland Security, Oklahoma Department of Agriculture, Food and Forestry, Oklahoma Insurance Department, Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality, National Weather Service, Oklahoma American Red Cross, the Salvation Army, and the Oklahoma Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster.
STORM REPORTS
Blaine County Emergency Management reports damage to a nursing home and mobile home in the Hydro area. Two people were injured. Two barns were damaged in Geary.
Canadian County Emergency Management reports up to 20 structures received some level of damage in last night’s storms. No injuries are reported.
Custer County Emergency Management reports at least 10 homes were damaged between Custer City and Hydro. Three homes were damaged in Butler. Two people were injured. Weatherford Emergency Management, Fire, Police, and EMS assisted with search and rescue efforts.
Woods County Emergency Management reports damage to a barn NW of Alva and power lines down.
Damage assessments are ongoing.
POWER OUTAGES
More than 5,700 homes and businesses are without power this morning as a result of storms that began Sunday evening. Areas with the highest number of outages are Custer and Tulsa counties.
RESIDENTS ASKED TO REPORT DAMAGE
Oklahoma Department of Emergency Management is asking residents impacted by the storms to report damages to their property at damage.ok.gov. Reporting damage helps local and state emergency managers better coordinate response and recovery efforts. Residents can report damage to homes, businesses or agriculture through the online survey.
