ODOT concludes inspection of SH-51 Verdigris River bridge in Wagoner County

Monday, April 10, 2017

All lanes of SH-51 are open at the Verdigris River between Wagoner and Coweta in Wagoner County following bridge inspection by the Oklahoma Department of Transportation. The department was notified by the U.S. Coast Guard early this morning that a barge traveling the navigation channel had impacted a pier protection cell on the north side of the bridge.

The bridge itself was not hit, but as per protocol, ODOT mobilized a crew to perform a thorough inspection this morning. This inspection revealed that there was no damage and that the bridge is safe for traffic.

ODOT commends the quick actions of the U.S. Coast Guard, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Oklahoma Highway Patrol and its own highway workers in responding to this event.
