First Annual Suicide Prevention and Awareness Festival Unites Lincoln County

The First Annual Suicide Prevention and Awareness Festival was a resounding success, marking a powerful step forward in community-based mental health advocacy. The Oklahoma Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services (DMHSAS) recently joined forces with more than 40 local organizations and individuals across Lincoln County to support a series of suicide prevention initiatives.

The idea was first proposed by Sheriff Garrett, and the response was overwhelming. What began as a simple concept quickly grew into a deeply impactful event—exceeding all expectations.

Stephanie Montes, a member of the DMHSAS Prevention Team, dedicated two consecutive weekends in Lincoln County to share a vital message: “Give today a chance; tomorrow needs you.”

Events like these are part of a broader statewide effort by DMHSAS to support communities—whether they’re grieving the loss of a loved one to suicide or seeking training and resources to prevent future tragedies.
