Churches, nonprofits, and community organizations across Oklahoma are invited to take part in Good Neighbor Day America, a nationwide day of service and outreach happening on May 16, 2026. Good Neighbor Day America is a movement designed to inspire acts of kindness, service, and connection—uniting Americans through simple but meaningful efforts that strengthen communities.
Oklahoma Faith Based and Community Initiatives (OFBCI) is partnered with CityServe Oklahoma who is coordinating efforts across the state, encouraging widespread participation and community engagement.
“Good Neighbor Day America is a powerful reminder that being a good neighbor is more than a concept—it’s action. In Oklahoma, we’ve spent years connecting communities through our Be A Neighbor platform, and this is a moment to build on that and be part of a national movement.” said OFBCI Director Brian Bobek. “Churches and organizations across our state have a unique opportunity to be the hands and feet of service in their communities.”
This initiative serves as a national kickoff to the America250 celebration, commemorating the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 2026.
How Oklahoma Can Get Involved
Organizations are encouraged to host a local outreach or service project on May 16. Events can be tailored to meet the unique needs of each community. Examples include:
- Partnering with local schools for campus improvement projects or student engagement activities
- Hosting food or clothing distributions for families in need
- Organizing community events at local parks, including family activities and clean-up efforts
- Providing free services such as car washes or laundry days
- Supporting vulnerable populations through outreach to the unhoused
- Conducting donation drives for diapers, food banks, or essential items
Individuals can then go and volunteer for the many opportunities happening across Oklahoma with multiple organizations.
Micro-Grant Opportunities Available
CityServe Oklahoma is available to help resource participating organizations with supplies and support to bring these outreach efforts to life. Participating organizations may also apply for micro-grants ranging from $1,000 to $2,000 to help fund their outreach events.
