OFBCI Deputy Director Andrea Stasyszen recently visited the Center of Family Love in Okarche, Oklahoma, touring a campus that reflects a deep and intentional commitment to serving individuals with intellectual disabilities.
Founded in 1981 by members of the Knights of Columbus, this faith-based community now serves more than 130 residents. At its core is a mission grounded in dignity—ensuring each individual is known, valued, and given opportunities to live a life filled with purpose.
During the visit, it was clear that this mission is lived out in meaningful, everyday ways. From a sensory class in action to residents creating artwork, shaping pottery, and tending thriving gardens, each activity is designed to foster creativity, skill-building, and connection. Many of these efforts extend beyond the campus, with locally grown products contributing to farm-to-table partnerships in the surrounding community.
Equally impactful was the culture of connection. Staff and leadership intentionally greeted residents by name, reflecting a community where relationships are prioritized and every individual is recognized.
At the Center of Family Love, programming goes beyond care—it creates pathways for contribution, growth, and belonging. Residents are not only supported, but empowered to build relationships, develop skills, and engage meaningfully in their community.
Organizations like this serve as a powerful example of what it means to build strong, compassionate communities across Oklahoma—where dignity is woven into daily life and every person has the opportunity to thrive. Learn more by visiting Center Of Family Love - Developmental Disability Services.
