Responding with Care: A Trauma-Informed Approach to Disaster Response

Description

The Lutheran Disaster Response invites you to their upcoming webinar led by Victoria Villa, Disaster Reliver Coordinator with the Southwest California Synod. In this session, we'll take a deeper look at how trauma shapes experiences, behaviors, and relationships, and how a trauma-informed approach can help us respond with greater awareness, care, and effectiveness. This will be both a presentation and a space for reflection, offering practical tools you can carry into your work. Together, we'll explore: • The cognitive, emotional, and physical effects of trauma • The importance of culturally responsive care • How trauma can shape behavior and communication • Caring for ourselves as helpers, with a focus on boundaries, vicarious trauma, and sustainable self-care practices The session will also offer guidance on trauma-informed approaches, including supportive language, active listening, and grounding techniques. Meeting ID: 823 3279 1282 Passcode: 416794 For questions, email Sean.Coffman@elca.org.
