Dr. Eddie Warrior Correctional Center (EWCC) is located on the original site of the Indian Mission School Haloche Industrial Institute in Taft. In 1909, the site became the Deaf, Blind and Orphan Institute, serving children under a variety of other names. In 1986, ODOC took possession of the site and opened it as a prison in 1989.
The minimum-security facility for women is named after Dr. Eddie Walter Warrior, who was business manager of the DB&O Institute, superintendent of Muskogee County Schools, and a principal/superintendent of the Taft school system.
Today, EWCC is home to more than 900 inmates.
Education
Many inmates lack education, a key component in avoiding re-incarceration. EWCC offers literacy courses as well as Pre-High School Equivalency and High School Equivalency diplomas.
College courses (not provided through state funding) are also available to inmates who can pay for them, or those who have alternative funding or scholarships.
Substance Abuse Treatment
Nearly all state inmates have some form of substance abuse problem, and for many, that problem is closely related to their criminal behavior. To counteract this, EWCC's programming teaches inmates ways to avoid relapse and helps them develop cognitive, social, emotional and coping skills.
CareerTech
EWCC inmates can get technical training through a CareerTech Skills Center, which prepares them for workforce entry after release. CareerTech also helps inmates find skill-related employment after release.
Courses at EWCC include Career Readiness, and Transportation Distribution and Logistics for Manufacturing.
Criminal Thinking
EWCC offers Thinking for a Change, and Associates 4 Success programs to address the thinking, judgment errors, and relationships linked with criminal thinking/behavior.
EWCC’s Regimented Treatment Program combines physical training with six cognitive behavioral treatment programs. Participating inmates learn self-discipline and must show initiative, motivation, and improved behavior to graduate.
Visitation
Visitation hours vary by each facility. An inmate's security level dictates how many hours he or she may visit with approved visitors.
Additional visitation rules may be found here.

Important Note: All inmate visitors must submit a “Visitor Request Form.” You can download a copy here, or request one from the facility. Background checks will be completed on everyone 18 and older. The inmate will notify you when the process is complete. The approval process takes approximately eight weeks once the Visitor Request Form has been returned to EWCC.
Special/Extended Visits
Special extended visits are allowed for staff-identified individuals who travel long distances, volunteers or team members who partner with ODOC in reentry services, attorney/clergy, etc. The facility's warden determines the length and conditions of all special visits. Special visits for ministers/religious leaders must be scheduled in advance through the Warden.
Requests for special visits must be made by the inmate using the appropriate request form and must be submitted by the inmate to unit staff at least two weeks in advance so verifications can be made. Exceptions to time frames may be considered in emergencies.
Inmates can receive mail at any time. Include their name, DOC number and housing assignment if known in the address.
