Matt Dukes is home-grown; a life-long resident of Midwest City having attended Eastside Elementary, Jarman Middle School, and Midwest City High School. Matt  has been married to his wife of 23 years Norita. He has two sons one of which is a firefighter and the other serves in the U.S. Marine Corps.  Both sons graduated from Carl Albert HS in Midwest City.  He is an active member of Soldier Creek Baptist Church and serves as its Chairman of the Finance Committee and Board of Trustees.

Prior to becoming a police officer, Matt served in the U.S. Coast Guard and later became a paramedic for Midwest City EMS. Matt joined the Oklahoma Air National Guard and eventually became a Midwest City police officer.

At the Police Department, Matt was a Field Training Officer for 11 years before being promoted to supervisor in 1996. At different points in his police career, he has supervised all three patrol shifts and specialty units/programs such as the K-9 Program, Bike Patrol, Honor Guard, Weapons of Mass Destruction and the Community Action Office. He was selected as “Supervisor of the Quarter” three times and also “Supervisor of the Year” in 1999 for his actions during and after the May 3, 1999 tornado. Other commendations that he received during his tenure were two Lifesaving awards, the Police Community Service award, the Meritorious Service award, an Advanced CLEET Peace Officer certification, and the Police Chief Commendation. Matt retired from the police department in November 2015 after 31 years of service.

During Operation Enduring Freedom, Matt was activated by the Air National Guard and deployed to Afghanistan and Guantanamo Bay, Cuba serving as NCOIC for detainee operations. During that activation, he also served as Air Guard liaison to the Security Force Director at Air Mobility Command. In 2008 as a Chief Master Sergeant, Matt retired from the Oklahoma Air National Guard with 30 years of service. He had received numerous awards and commendations for his military service.

He also completed courses at Community College of the Air Force and graduated from Oklahoma City Community College and Ashford University. He holds a BA in Emergency Management and a Master’s in Public Administration.

Matt was elected as Mayor of Midwest City in 2016.
