Oklahoma ranks among the lowest in the nation for physical activity. That’s not just a statistic. It’s a signal that our communities need more support to get moving.

That’s why TSET is launching a new funding opportunity focused on group physical activity and exercise, the TSET Targeted Achievement Grants: Physical Activity (TAG-Physical Activity). Being active with friends and neighbors makes it fun and easy to be active. This grant is designed to strengthen communities by supporting group-based physical activity programs, from walking clubs and dance groups to equipment for fitness classes and recreational sports.

What’s the goal?

It’s simple: help more Oklahomans get moving and stay healthy. Group activity can improve not only physical health but also mental well-being. When we show up for each other, we’re more likely to stick with new habits. That kind of support can lead to lifelong change.

What does this grant do?

This new grant offers up to $100,000 per year for three years to support:

  • Community-driven assessment and planning
  • Group exercise programs (walking, yoga, pickleball, etc.)
  • Small to medium equipment (yoga mats, stability balls, jump ropes)
  • Promotion and outreach of services

As TSET rolls out this pilot program, this opportunity is currently only available to the counties listed below:

Adair Creek Kiowa Oklahoma
Bryan Delaware LeFlore Payne
Caddo Garfield Lincoln Pottawatomie
Carter Garvin Mayes Rogers
Cherokee Grady McClain Sequoyah
Cleveland Haskell McIntosh Stephens
Comanche Kay Muskogee Tulsa
Craig Kingfisher Nowata Woodward

Why social support?

When people move together, whether it's a walking group in the park or a fitness class at the local rec center, they build trust, connection and accountability. That’s the magic behind this grant: combining movement with meaningful community support.

Looking ahead

This new grant builds on TSET’s 25 years of transforming communities across Oklahoma. From community wellness initiatives to Built Environment and Discovery grants, TSET supports creative, community-led efforts that improve health outcomes statewide. This grant continues that work by helping communities come together through movement and social support.

As Julie Bisbee, TSET Executive Director, says:

“We’re committed to funding innovative programs that make the healthy choice the easy choice for all Oklahomans. This grant empowers local organizations to do just that, by bringing people together and getting them moving.”
