Wildfire Evacuation

Prioritize Your Safety

Oklahoma Forestry Services prioritizes safety during wildfires. Evacuate immediately when advised, using a safe route away from fire and smoke; prepare ahead with multiple escape plans, quick-access vehicles, essentials, and utility shut-off knowledge.

Never return until authorities declare it safe, and report hazards to responders.

Helpful steps you can take in case of an evacuation.

Know Your Location

  • Wildfire Evacuation Map
  • Be able to quickly identify where you are staying before an emergency happens
  • Know your address, cabin name, or nearby landmark
  • Use the SafeStayOK web application to confirm your location
  • Share that location with everyone in your group

Know the Evacuation Routes

Identify more than one way out of the area in case conditions change quickly.

  • Review at least two evacuation routes
  • Follow designated routes when instructions are given
  • Remember some roads may be used by emergency responders
  • Download maps ahead of time to become familiar with the area

Be Ready to Leave Immediately

When an alert is issued, act quickly and keep your focus on getting out safely.

  • Make sure everyone is accounted for
  • Take pets, keys, phones, medications, and essentials
  • Keep your vehicle accessible and ready to go
  • Leave early if you feel unsafe

Follow Official Alerts

Emergency notifications may tell you which route to use and which roads to avoid.

  • Read the alert carefully
  • Use the route provided in the alert
  • Do not return until officials say it is safe
