What is the purpose of the Oklahoma Strategic Military Planning Commission?

The Commission advises and recommends to the Legislature and the Governor procedures to prevent Oklahoma's military facilities from being targeted for closing or downsizing, and to maximize Oklahoma's input into the federal base closing and realignment process.

Who are the members of the Commission?

The Commission consists of nine members: five appointed by the Governor representing each of the five military installations, one state Representative appointed by the Speaker of the House, one state Senator appointed by the President Pro Tempore of the Senate, and two ex officio nonvoting members (Secretary of Veterans Affairs and a representative of the Adjutant General of the Oklahoma Army and Air National Guard).

How often does the Commission meet?

The Commission meets once a month, as required to fulfill its duties and responsibilities, subject to the provisions of the Oklahoma Open Meeting Act and the Oklahoma Open Records Act.

How can the public get involved or provide input to the Commission?

The public can attend Commission meetings and provide public comments.

What is the role of the Commission in the BRAC (Base Realignment and Closure) process?

The Commission maximizes Oklahoma's input into the BRAC process to protect the state's military installations and mitigate the effects of any reductions in military or civilian personnel.
