Letter to the industry

The LP Gas Administration is committed to transparency, consistency, and lawful enforcement in carrying out our statutory responsibilities. From time to time, questions arise regarding changes in agency communication, enforcement posture, or administrative procedure. We believe it is important to address those matters openly and provide clarity regarding how and why we operate as we do.

Commitment to Statutory Alignment and Uniform Enforcement

Over the last five (5) years it became apparent that certain past administrative practices were not always fully aligned with governing statutes, adopted administrative rules, or consistent code enforcement standards across all licensees. Where inconsistencies were identified, it was clear that procedural adjustments were necessary to ensure full compliance with state law and to implement uniform enforcement standards.

As a result, the current Administration, to include the Administrator, Deputy Administrator, and Safety Code Enforcement Officers operate with a renewed and deliberate emphasis on consistent, impartial, and lawful enforcement in accordance with their sworn Oath of Office and statutory duties to the State of Oklahoma.

Our Oath and Public Safety Obligation

Every state official takes an oath to support, obey, and defend the Constitution and laws of the State of Oklahoma. That oath is not symbolic, it is a binding legal and ethical obligation. It requires that we apply the law evenly, without preference, and without disregard.

If an accident were to occur as a result of a known violation that was not addressed, the consequences could be severe - including injury, loss of life, property damage, and erosion of public trust. The Administration does not have discretion to overlook violations that implicate life safety. When violations are identified, we are obligated to act.

Consistent permit enforcement also protects the industry itself. Ensuring that all dealers and licensees are properly permitted and operating in compliance helps protect businesses in the event of an incident and promotes a level and fair marketplace.

Communication Regarding Compliance

The Administration communicates statutory requirements and the consequences established in law if compliance is not achieved. Advising a licensee that failure to correct a violation may result in citation or administrative penalty is not punitive; it is intended to provide clarity and prevent surprise.

Clear communication regarding potential enforcement action often provides licensees the opportunity to correct deficiencies voluntarily before penalties are imposed. Transparency in expectations benefits both the agency and the industry.

Accuracy, Professionalism, and Continuous Improvement

We recognize that administrative processes involve human review and documentation. When errors occur, such as misinterpretation of submitted information, we correct them promptly and appreciate cooperation in ensuring our records remain accurate. Professional dialogue and clarification are always welcomed.

Our Mission

The mission of the LP Gas Administration remains to safeguard the health and welfare of Oklahoma’s citizens through consistent enforcement of adopted safety codes and state law. That responsibility requires uniform application of standards across all licensees to ensure fairness within the industry and protection of the public.

We value experienced operators and do not view the industry as adversaries. Our shared objectives are safe installations, compliant operations, and the prevention of accidents before they occur.

Our commitment is to operate lawfully, ethically, and consistently in faithful execution of the duties entrusted to us by statute and by oath.
