Governor Stitt Welcomes U.S. Department of State Review of Mexican Consulates Across the U.S.
OKLAHOMA CITY (May 8, 2026) - Governor Kevin Stitt today issued the following statement regarding the U.S. Department of State’s review of Mexican consulates operating in the United States under President Donald Trump’s America First foreign policy approach.
"I welcome the Department of State’s review of all Mexican Consulates, including the one in Oklahoma, and appreciate President Trump’s America First approach to foreign relations,” said Governor Kevin Stitt. “The Mexican Consulate in Oklahoma City was established to strengthen lawful cooperation for Mexican nationals legally in our state and build stronger economic ties for our job creators. This is the mission Oklahomans support for all foreign consulates in our state, and Oklahomans also welcome strong accountability for any foreign country that does not maintain a pro-America stance among their offices in the U.S.”
The State Department announced on Thursday that it is initiating a review of all 53 Mexican consulates operating in the United States.
The Mexican Consulate in Oklahoma City officially opened in May 2023 after longstanding efforts to establish a permanent consular presence in the state. To this day, the consulate provides critical services to legal Mexican nationals in Oklahoma, supports travel and business connections, and reinforces economic ties between the countries for the benefit of Oklahoma businesses and consumers.
The Oklahoma City consulate currently serves over 450,000 legal Mexican nationals living in the state, and Oklahoma is home to over 30,000 Hispanic-owned small businesses.
Governor Stitt has consistently supported strong international partnerships that create opportunity for Oklahomans while maintaining a clear expectation that all institutions operating in the United States respect American law and sovereignty.
