Governor Stitt Signs Executive Order to Help Foster Children Achieve the American Dream
OKLAHOMA CITY (June 4, 2026) - Governor Kevin Stitt signed an executive order building on the Trump administration’s effort to ensure every Oklahoma child in foster care has access to federal Trump Accounts. Building on federal child welfare initiatives, this order strengthens financial protections and expands long-term opportunities for children in Oklahoma's foster care system.
“Every child in Oklahoma deserves the opportunity to chase the American Dream,” said Governor Stitt. “The President and First Lady are working to make sure every American child, regardless of their circumstances, has that opportunity. I’m proud to partner with them. In Oklahoma, every child will have access to Trump accounts, and as a state, we are contributing another $250 for every eligible child in Oklahoma. The American Dream is alive and well here, and we’re making sure that’s true for generations to come.”
The order directs the Oklahoma Department of Human Services to identify and secure federal benefits available to children in state custody while ensuring those funds are used in the best interest of the child. The executive order also advances the implementation of the Oklahoma Dream Accounts Investment Program, helping eligible foster youth access long-term savings tools designed to support education, career training, homeownership, and entrepreneurship.
OKDHS will begin laying the foundation for implementation, including identifying eligible children, securing available federal benefits and developing the framework needed to support long-term savings opportunities for youth in foster care. More information will be shared as implementation progresses.
“At OKDHS, our goal is always to help young people leave care with the tools, support and opportunities they need to thrive," said Lauren Tatum, OKDHS Deputy Director of Child Welfare Services. “Oklahoma Department of Human Services commends this initiative and extends its sincere gratitude to Governor Stitt for championing the well-being of Oklahoma’s youth through this executive order.”
