Governor Stitt Orders Flags to Half-Staff to Honor Osage County Commissioner Charlie Cartwright
OKLAHOMA CITY (May 20, 2026) - Governor Kevin Stitt has directed all American and Oklahoma flags on state property to be flown at half-staff in honor of Osage County Commissioner Charlie Cartwright, who passed away on May 11 at the age of 72.
Commissioner Cartwright dedicated his life to public service, serving nearly 40 years in law enforcement before continuing his service as Osage County Commissioner for District 3. His decades-long commitment to protecting and serving his community left a lasting impact on Osage County and the State of Oklahoma.
“Sarah and I are saddened to hear of Charlie Cartwright’s passing,” said Governor Stitt. “Charlie showed a deep commitment to his community and to the people of Oklahoma. We’re grateful for his lifetime of service, and we join his family, friends, and the Osage County community in honoring his legacy.”
The Osage County community will gather to celebrate Commissioner Cartwright’s life on Wednesday, May 20, in Pawhuska.
“Charlie Cartwright will be greatly missed throughout our community,” said Representative Clay Staires. “He lived as a true example of service to others, leading with humility, generosity, and an unwavering commitment to those around him. The phrase ‘to lead is to serve’ was not just something he believed—it was how he lived his life every day. Thank you, Charlie, for showing us how to live a life of service.”
Flags will be flown at half-staff from 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, until 5:00 p.m. on Friday, May 22, 2026.
