Governor Stitt Taps Judge Lynne McGuire as Cleveland County District Judge

Tuesday, December 05, 2023

Governor Kevin Stitt announced today his appointment of Judge Lynne McGuire to serve as Cleveland County district judge.

"Judge McGuire is a person of utmost character who will serve the people of Cleveland County with integrity," said Governor Stitt. "With decades of legal experience, Lynne is well-suited to balance the scales of justice with wisdom and empathy."

In August 2023, McGuire was appointed as a special judge for Cleveland County, assigned to the family, small claims, and victim protective orders dockets. Between 2009 and 2023, McGuire presided over divorce, custody, paternity, adoption, guardianship, and victim protective order proceedings as a special judge for Oklahoma County. Prior to her judicial service, McGuire was president and chief executive officer of Oklahoma Lawyers for Children for two years. At the Oklahoma City-based non-profit, McGuire represented abused and neglected children, created training curriculums for lawyers and non-lawyers, and coordinated the organization's fundraising and grant efforts.

McGuire has held numerous positions in the Oklahoma County District Attorney's Office, including felony prosecutor, youthful offender prosecutor, and felony team leader. McGuire was named chief of the Oklahoma County District Attorney's Office criminal division in 2003, supervising 50 lawyers and 12 legal interns responsible for prosecuting thousands of felony, misdemeanor, and juvenile cases per year.

"I'm grateful to Governor Stitt for the opportunity to serve as Cleveland County district judge," said McGuire. "It's an honor to step into such an important role, grounded by the principles of community service and equal justice for all."

Judge McGuire obtained her Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Oklahoma in 1986 before earning her Juris Doctorate from Oklahoma City University in 1989. McGuire lives in Norman with her husband of 35 years, Mark. They have three daughters and three grandchildren.
