Governor Kevin Stitt called University of Oklahoma head softball coach Patty Gasso today to congratulate her team for winning the 2021 Women’s College World Series national championship. The Sooners won the title with a 5-1 victory over Florida State Thursday afternoon in front of almost 11,000 fans at USA Softball Hall of Fame Stadium in Oklahoma City.
“I just got off the phone with head coach Patty Gasso to congratulate her and the team on their incredible World Series title run,” Governor Stitt said. “The Sooners battled through adversity early and their determination and competitive spirit inspired our state and softball fans across the country.”
This is the program’s fifth national championship, all under Gasso’s leadership. In addition to their national title, the Sooners set multiple single-season NCAA records including team batting average, home runs and runs scored.
