OKLAHOMA CITY (March 9, 2020) – Governor Kevin Stitt announced today he has named Charlie Hannema as his new chief of communications.
“I am pleased to welcome Charlie to our team,” said Gov. Stitt. “As a journalist at heart, he understands the important role our news media plays in an informed society, and his strategic thinking will help my administration find new ways to reach Oklahomans and engage them in the work we are doing to become a Top Ten state.”
Hannema has served as director of public relations for Broken Arrow Public Schools since 2017. Prior to this, he spent 10 years as a television journalist, including five years as a sports anchor and reporter at KOTV in Tulsa.
While at Broken Arrow Public Schools, he served as the primary spokesperson for one of Oklahoma’s largest school districts, building relationships with local and state media outlets and coordinating logistics for multiple public relations campaigns. He also played a key role in facilitating new strategic partnerships, including partnering with Owasso Public Schools to rebrand the annual football rivalry game as the Folds of Honor Patriot Bowl to raise money to benefit military families.

Hannema holds a Bachelor of Journalism from the University of Missouri.
