GOVERNOR STITT TO HOST SECOND ROUNDTABLE ON RACE

Thursday, June 18, 2020

OKLAHOMA CITY (June 18, 2020) – Governor Kevin Stitt will host a second roundtable discussion on race with Oklahoma community leaders at 7 p.m. tonight on Gov. Stitt’s Facebook and YouTube channels.

“As I mentioned in our first roundtable, I wanted to continue the conversation and focus on economic development challenges and opportunities in minority and underserved communities,” said Gov. Stitt. “Oklahoma is better when we work together, and I encourage Oklahomans to lean in and listen to the stories and ideas from tonight’s panel.”

Panelists include Sen. Kevin Matthews (District 11), Progress OKC Executive Director Maurianna Adams, Avenu PR Founder and CEO Charity Marcus, Digital Convergence Consulting Principal Wes Mitchell and TEDC Creative Capital CEO Rose Washington. Marcus and Mitchell are members of the Governor’s Minority Business Council.

“I want to applaud Governor Stitt and his team for organizing and having this important conversation given this is a week celebrated by African Americans related to the Juneteenth notification of the Emancipation Proclamation celebrated on June 19,” said Sen. Matthews. “We appreciate the Governor’s willingness to hear a different perspective and to be open to hear our voices, which deepens relationships rather than magnifying the division we are experiencing across the country. In Oklahoma, we seek to do better.”

Topics of discussion will include programs to support minority businesses, challenges minority businesses currently face, the need to improve access to mentorships and career exposure and other personal experiences from the panelists.

The event was organized by Oklahoma Capitol Culture, a nonprofit organization shaping a culture of civility, integrity, and servant leadership through non-political engagement.
