ODOC graduates largest correctional officer class since academy overhaul
The Oklahoma Department of Corrections proudly welcomes 54 new correctional officers – the largest graduating class since the agency revamped its training academy in May 2023. Since then, more than 380 officers have graduated from nine academies.
The officers completed an intensive eight-week program designed to strengthen safety, security and rehabilitation efforts within ODOC facilities. The academy’s updated curriculum emphasizes de-escalation techniques, situational awareness, and best practices for maintaining order while fostering a rehabilitative environment.
“This class represents the future of ODOC,” said Director Steven Harpe. “Their dedication and commitment to public service and the agency's mission and vision will make a lasting impact on our agency, our facilities and the State of Oklahoma. We are proud to welcome them to the team.”
This latest graduating class marks a significant step forward in ODOC’s ongoing efforts to enhance recruitment, hiring, retention and agency culture. By prioritizing collaboration and attracting highly-qualified candidates, ODOC continues to build a strong, professional workforce dedicated to the agency’s mission.
The graduates will now begin their assignments at 18 ODOC facilities across the state, reinforcing the agency’s commitment to maintaining secure institutions. The agency remains focused on strengthening its ranks through continuous recruitment and development initiatives.
