Intake from county jails changes

Wednesday, March 18, 2020

The Oklahoma Department of Corrections (ODOC) is working with the Oklahoma Sheriffs’ Association to request all 77 Sheriffs and County Jail Administrators suspend inmate transfers from county jails to ODOC reception centers.

This initiative began after Governor Kevin Stitt’s State of Emergency declaration and marks an unprecedented step to combat the infection and spread of COVID-19.

ODOC Director Scott Crow applauds the OSA for its willingness to help halt inmate movement. Medical experts highly recommend restricting access to facilities. ODOC hopes this extreme measure keeps the virus from infecting staff and inmates, one more precaution in battling the spread of infection.
