OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. -- “Second Chances” is more than a clever name for a thrift store that sells used ties and trinkets. Sure – this 4000 square foot shop is overstuffed with bargains. But for store owner, Delisa Herbert, the thrift store is a lifeline for anyone desperate for a do over.
Herbert has had her share of second chances. She spent more than a decade of her life in an out of prison. “God was building an incredible testimony. That’s how I’d put it,” Herbert said.
One of her first jobs after incarceration was as a waitress. It was here, serving some regulars – Delisa’s life was forever changed. She said, “One of the ladies said to me, hey, Delisa, would you like to learn about Jesus? I said sure. That was Saturday and on Monday we started bible study.
Delisa Herbert’s life is now dedicated to helping others. Everyday, the area’s needy come to Second Chances for a bus ticket, meal or kind word.
The inventory is all donated. 100% of the profits go right back into supporting the second chances ministry.
Whether it’s employing former inmates or giving food bags to the homeless, Herbert has a renewed heart for people. “Just having someone to believe in you will make a difference, “She said. “So, you can’t deny anybody.”
“Second Chances” is a store of hope – where forgiveness, healing and reconciliation are as abundant as the bargains.
