OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla -- The Oklahoma Department of Corrections Honor Guard is heading to Washington, D.C. next month. They've been selected to perform ceremonious and patriotic tributes for public viewing.
These 13 teams are a highly dedicated group of law enforcement officers, representing organizations from all across this nation and Canada.
They descend on the Nation’s Capital every year for National Police Week, where peace officers are honored for their dedicated service to the protection of our communities.
May 15th is known as National Peace Officers’ Memorial Day, a day when the nation honors those officers who have made the ultimate sacrifice.
The DOC Honor Guard is the only corrections agency in the country to earn the privilege to compete.
Our elite 8 member team has spent the last several months practicing for the performance. The event is slated for May 14th, 2019.
