Our Award of Merit goes Sgt. DaRell Guess at Dick Conner Correctional Center

Tuesday, November 27, 2018

Our Award of Merit goes to staff who’ve shown extraordinary bravery and exceptional valor outside of professional duties without regard to personal safety. This year’s goes to Sgt. DaRell Guess, Correctional Security Officer at Dick Conner Correctional Center.

On July 28, 2018, Sgt. Guess and his wife came upon a van turned over on its side on U-S 75 near Pine Street in Tulsa. He approached the vehicle and saw a woman trapped inside.

Sgt. Guess tried to free her, climbing on top of the vehicle to find the best way to get her out. Realizing he couldn’t, Guess lowered himself into the car, took the woman’s hand and reassured her help was on the way. He stayed with her until first-responders arrived.

His actions helped keep the victim calm until she could be extracted from the van. She survived and today is thankful for the sergeant’s efforts to comfort her after the wreck. For these reasons, Sgt. Guess is well-deserving of this agency’s Award of Merit.
