Mabel Bassett Correctional Center staff deliver water to area fire departments.Last April, wildfires burned thousands of acres west of Oklahoma Department of Corrections’ medium-security prison for women, Mabel Bassett Correctional Center, in McLoud.

Wanting to help out, MBCC staff held a fundraiser to purchase bottled water for area volunteer fire departments and emergency rescue services.

On June 1, MBCC staff delivered 50 cases of water to the Newalla Fire Department – just as fire crews were getting called out to fight another blaze. Staff also delivered 50 cases to the Bethel Acres Fire Department that day.

A few weeks later, Warden Debbie Aldridge, Lt. Adedapo Adeosun, Lt. Clint Bennett, Sgt. Christopher Spillers, Sgt. Robbie Hicks and Cory Ketch, delivered 100 cases of water to the McLoud Fire Department.

Staff dropped off 12 cases of water, too, to REACT in Shawnee on Friday.

ODOC staff chose these emergency crews because they’re close to the prison.

McLoud Fire is MBCC’s primary first responder, and has helped the facility many times over the years.

Newalla Fire is within 4 miles of the facility, and Bethel Acres Fire is within 10. Additionally, many ODOC employees are volunteer firefighters in their communities.

REACT was also chosen because they’re the facility’s primary ambulance service provider.
