The Administrative Review Unit looks into inmate misconduct cases and grievance appeals sent in for final review. This review is the last step of the agency’s internal process. Inmates must finish all administrative steps before they can file a lawsuit.

Reviews done at both the facility and department level help avoid lawsuits that aren’t needed. Each year, the unit receives hundreds of inmate letters. Staff send a written response to each one.

This unit also trains all employees who handle discipline and grievance cases. It serves as the main contact for staff, family members, and legislators who have questions about these processes.
