Statewide Charter School Board

The Statewide Charter School Board (SVCSB) serves as the primary state agency committed to high-quality online learning opportunities for Oklahoma students. Founded in 2013, SVCSB organizes its work in two areas: full-time virtual charter school authorization and oversight, and supplementary online education. Statutory duties include:

  • Provide oversight of the operations of statewide virtual charter schools.
  • Establish a procedure for accepting, approving and disapproving statewide virtual charter school applications, and a process for renewal or revocation of approved charter school contracts.
  • Make publicly available a list of supplemental online courses which have been reviewed and certified.
  • In conjunction with the Office of Management and Enterprise Services, negotiate and enter into contracts with supplemental online course providers to offer a state rate price to school districts for and certified by SVCSB. (70 O.S. § 70-3-145.3)
  • Maintain an online learning platform available to all Oklahoma school districts to provide high quality opportunities aligned with subject matter standards adopted by the State Board of Education, and implement online courses with an emphasis on STEM courses, foreign language courses and advanced placement courses.
