ALVA — The Oklahoma Department of Rehabilitation Services invites local businesses, school districts, civic groups, health care partners, workforce organizations and families to an open house at the Alva Vocational Rehabilitation office (VR 63) to learn how DRS supports workforce development and helps Oklahomans with disabilities achieve long-term employment success.
The open house will take place from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Sept. 16 at the Alva Vocational Rehabilitation office, located at 326 7th St., Suites 3 and 4.
Attendees will have the opportunity to meet with DRS staff and learn about vocational rehabilitation services available to individuals with disabilities across Woods, Alfalfa and Major counties, providing vocational rehabilitation services that help Oklahomans prepare for, obtain and maintain meaningful employment.
Services include individualized career planning, counseling and guidance, job-readiness training, assistive technology, clinical and vocational evaluations, and collaboration with local employers. The office also works to provide accessible appointment options for working families and clients throughout the region.
High school transition services are a central part of DRS' mission. The agency partners with area school districts to provide Pre-Employment Transition Services, including career exploration, workplace tours, job coaching and paid work experiences. These services help students build confidence and develop the skills they need for life after graduation and entry into the workforce.
The Alva office is committed to expanding outreach in rural communities, strengthening employer partnerships and increasing awareness of vocational rehabilitation services. The open house will provide an opportunity for educators, health care partners, workforce partners, civic organizations and families to learn more about how DRS can support individuals with disabilities.
The Alva Vocational Rehabilitation office is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information, call (580) 327-1214.
