Oklahoma Veterans Home System

The newest addition to the Oklahoma Veterans Home system, the Sallisaw Veterans Home, is in a region between the Ozark Mountains and the banks of the Arkansas River in convenient proximity to eastern Oklahoma communities and Fort Smith. This state-of-the-art facility, a 201,000-square-foot mixed-use and residential facility, is situated on a 40.8-acre campus that houses 175 beds and employs approximately 275 staff members.

The home features nine thoughtfully designed courtyards that provide spaces for physical therapy, passive healing, recreation, and dining. These areas create a safe and engaging environment that promotes wellness, community, and quality of life for residents. With spacious private rooms for every veteran, this facility serves as a model across the country for other homes that typically operate on a small-scale, community-based model with limited space.

Having successfully passed its federal recognition survey in 2026, the home is now prepared to begin full admissions for eligible veterans. It is well-equipped to provide exceptional clinical services, has ample staffing, and maintains an excellent reputation for resident safety.

Administrators emphasize that this home offers resources not commonly found in many private facilities, including private rooms and generous recreational space. The Sallisaw Veterans Home welcomes veterans from any state, including Arkansas, without requiring them to be residents of Oklahoma.
