Route 66 Mural Fest Brings Public Art and Small Business Together During Oklahoma's Weekend of Local

Monday, July 13, 2026

OKLAHOMA CITY (July 13, 2026) — Oklahoma communities along Historic Route 66 will transform into outdoor art galleries and local shopping destinations during Route 66 Mural Fest, a statewide celebration taking place July 17–19 as part of Weekend of Local.

Presented through a partnership between the Oklahoma Route 66 Centennial Commission and the Independent Shopkeepers Association (ISA), Route 66 Mural Fest invites visitors and Oklahomans alike to experience new Route 66-themed murals while exploring the locally owned shops, restaurants and attractions that define communities across the Mother Road. The initiative is designed to celebrate Oklahoma's Route 66 Centennial while driving foot traffic and economic impact to small businesses.

"Route 66 has always been more than a highway; it's the backbone of so many Oklahoma communities," said Lt. Governor Matt Pinnell. "As we celebrate the centennial of America's Main Street, we're creating experiences that encourage visitors to slow down, discover incredible public art and support the small businesses that make our downtowns unique. Every meal purchased, every shop visited and every mural shared helps strengthen local economies across our state."

Communities across Oklahoma's Route 66 corridor will unveil new murals celebrating the history, culture and future of the iconic highway. Each unveiling will serve as a gathering place for residents and visitors before encouraging them to explore nearby businesses participating in Weekend of Local.

Throughout the weekend, hundreds of locally owned businesses across Oklahoma will offer special promotions, events and activities, making it easy for visitors to turn a road trip into an opportunity to shop local, dine local and experience authentic Oklahoma hospitality.

Participating Route 66 communities include Edmond, Stroud, Yukon, Oklahoma City's 39th Street District, Vinita, Depew, Sayre and several others, with additional communities continuing to join the celebration.

Visitors are encouraged to plan their Route 66 adventure by mapping out mural stops alongside local restaurants, boutiques, coffee shops and attractions throughout the weekend.
