Service Oklahoma’s First Anniversary Data Shows Major Achievements for Oklahomans

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

January 25, 2024

OKLAHOMA CITY, OKLA. – January 1, 2024, marks one year since Service Oklahoma became the state’s provider of driver license and motor vehicle services to Oklahomans and continues to put one thing above all: customer satisfaction.

Undertaking one of the largest employee transfers in state history, from both the Department of Public Safety and the Oklahoma Tax Commission, Service Oklahoma faced numerous tasks ranging from the logistics of building a new state agency to enhancing the experience for citizens obtaining driver licenses and registering their vehicles.

“Managing a transition this size was no small task and brought with it a lot of excitement, but also challenges,” said Jay Doyle, Chief Executive Officer of Service Oklahoma. “It was like solving a complex puzzle transitioning staff to a new agency, address unanswered citizen calls and improving the in person service experience. Every day created the chance for us to improve as the year went on.”

Service Oklahoma made numerous changes to driver license and motor vehicle services in 2023 including enhancing in-person services, designing new online services and launching strategically selected locations, all with Oklahomans in mind.

Changes made by Service Oklahoma in 2023 resulted in dramatic improvements in services offered.

  • Call center answer rates show a dramatic improvement from 6% when Service Oklahoma took over, to more than 90% with a 1.5-minute wait time.
  • The customer call satisfaction score in December 2023 was 6.3/7.
  • In-person service capacity improvements including an increase in staffing and expanded offerings resulted in a 64% reduction in wait times compared to December 2022 and an average 13-minute wait time across the 30 locations thus far in January.
  • 95% of Oklahomans are now within 20 minutes of a Service Oklahoma location after the opening of many new locations:
    • Antlers Licensing and Exams Location (Opening late January 2024)
    • Bristow Licensed Operator
    • Leedey Licensed Operator
    • Catoosa Licensed Operator (Opening by February 2024)

Several changes to streamline and improve in-person and online services in 2023 include:

  • Launching a new check-in system that works like a restaurant’s waitlist – no appointments required eliminating the need for Oklahomans to show up early.
  • Adding 70 driver license terminals to the busiest licensed operator locations to further ease capacity issues.
  •  Allowing licensed operators to offer out-of-state license transfers and original driver license issuances.
  • Adding or improving 11 online services and processing all online transactions within two business days including:
    • Driver License, State ID, and REAL ID Renewals and Replacements
    • Vehicle Registration Renewals
    •  Disability Placard application
    • Reinstatement of suspended Driver Licenses
    • Real time application tracker for license and ID card Renewals and Replacements
    • Submission of DOT Medical Card for Commercial Driver License holders

Service Oklahoma also has big plans coming for 2024 beginning with the opening of the Broken Arrow Drive Testing Center and the Antlers Service Oklahoma location and starting July 1, will implement legislation to take over aircraft services from the Oklahoma Tax Commission.

“In 2024, we will continue to take innovative steps to ensure citizens have a smooth and easy interactions with government services,” said Doyle. “We will work to go above and beyond to provide a best-in-class customer experience because we recognize the impact we have on Oklahomans’ daily lives. We are truly Oklahomans helping Oklahomans.”
