Certification

Certification Requirements for Oklahoma Teachers

To earn a teaching license in Oklahoma, candidates must pass both a subject-area assessment and a pedagogical assessment to demonstrate their expertise and teaching ability. The sections below outline available options and where to register.

1. Subject-Area Assessments

Candidates must pass an assessment that evaluates their knowledge in their specific teaching field. Oklahoma accepts:

  • Oklahoma Subject Area Test (OSAT) – Facilitated by Certification Examinations for Oklahoma Educators (CEOE).

2. Pedagogical Assessments

To demonstrate teaching skills and instructional knowledge, candidates must complete one of the following:

  • Assessment of Professional Knowledge (APK) – Available beginning June 3, 2025. This is the primary assessment for new candidates.
  • Praxis Performance Assessment for Teachers (PPAT) – Available until December 2025, but new registrations are closed. Only candidates who registered before the deadline may complete the PPAT.
