General Qualifications

The general qualifications for licensure (applicable for all license types… See OAC 490:10-1-2.1) are:

- be at least 21 years of age;
- undergo and successfully pass a criminal background check;
- be a US citizen, or be a qualified alien & lawfully residing in the US;
- pass the state standards examination
    -- (75% or better) on the exam applicable to their license type);
- be of reputable and responsible character;
- report to the Board any adverse action taken by any licensing or certification entity in any jurisdiction;
- in compliance with state income tax requirements;
- pay all required fees associated with obtaining a license;
- have a working ability in the English language sufficient to communicate, both orally and in writing, with residents, family members, employees, the general public and representatives; and
- perhaps OBVIOUSLY, be in good standing with the Board already (no current suspensions, etc.)

NHA – Nursing Home Administrator
RCAL – Residential Care/Assisted Living
RC – Residential Care (only)
ADC – Adult Day Care
CAA – Certified Assistant Administrator
