ELECTRICAL DRAFTING TECHNICIAN
Positions in this job family are responsible for performing difficult and skilled electrical drafting work for an electrical utility company.
The functions within this job family will vary by level, but may contain the following:⦁ Prepares preliminary and detailed electrical, mechanical, architectural and civil drawings for a variety of projects, modifications and proposals utilizing computer aided drafting equipment.⦁ Revises and updates drawings on a periodic basis or as required.⦁ Drafts complex electrical wiring diagrams, electrical schematics, mechanical equipment and physical layouts, piping and instrument diagrams and component and other special diagrams.⦁ Makes field trips to secure information; inspects facilities and equipment for verification and conformance with plans and specifications.⦁ Maintains a current filing system for all agency related drawings, reports, contracts, manuals and other materials.⦁ Researches and provides requested technical information on equipment and facilities.⦁ Operates and maintains microfilm, blueprint and engraving machines.⦁ Requisitions and maintains necessary supplies and equipment.⦁ Prepares drawings for electric utility projects from general sketches.⦁ Makes routine calculations for economic and engineering studies.⦁ Supervises the activities of subordinate drafting personnel.
The Electrical Drafting Technician job family consists of two levels which are distinguished by the level of complexity of the assigned duties and responsibilities, and for providing leadership to others.
Level I: Code: Q24A Salary Band: M
This is the career or journey level where incumbents perform the full range of electrical drafting duties.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities required at this level include knowledge of electrical drafting principles and techniques; of drafting equipment and of basic engineering, mathematics and electrical symbols. Ability is required to letter, to use drafting equipment; and to rough hand sketch.
Education and Experience requirements at this level consist of two years of experience in electrical drafting work; or completion of a course of study at a technical/trade school in electrical drafting; or a combination of education and experience.
Level II: Code: Q24B Salary Band: N
This is the leadership level where employees serve as a lead worker or supervisor and perform the most technical or difficult electrical drafting tasks.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities required at this level include those identified in Level I plus knowledge of computer aided drafting equipment; and of electrical equipment and associated units. Ability is required to supervise and coordinate the activities of others.
Education and Experience requirements at this level consist of those identified in Level I plus two additional years of qualifying experience, one year of which must have been in using computer-aided drafting equipment.
