Agriculture Market Development Coordinator
Positions in this job family are assigned responsibilities involving the planning, promotion and monitoring of marketing programs that will benefit the sale of Oklahoma agricultural products. In this role they will perform activities related to opening and expanding markets for growers, producers, and processors of Oklahoma products and other related educational functions which will enhance the agricultural industry and rural economic development in the state.
The functions within this job family will vary by level and area of assignment, but may include the following:
- Plans, promotes and monitors assigned marketing programs that will benefit the domestic and international sales of Oklahoma agricultural products. Program projects include promotions at trade shows and fairs, directories, promotional campaigns, in store promotion, cooking demonstrations, direct marketing assistance, product identification, etc.
- Provides professional and technical advice and assistance to community leaders, educational officials, producers and other officials of communities.
- Gives speeches and presentations as requested to schools, civic groups and associations on Oklahoma agriculture and programs of the Market Development Division.
- Develops and distributes public service announcements to newspapers, radio and television stations and outdoor advertisers and creates good working relationships.
- Provides information and assistance to customers by identification of products and suppliers that are available to meet their requirements.
- Directs and conducts research to determine the sources and quantities of agricultural commodities available for marketing and current trends that will affect the markets; assembles pertinent information into market reports.
- Directs and conducts market news information regarding livestock, grain, other agricultural commodity markets, etc.; assembles pertinent information and trends into market reports.
- Works with other regional and state marketing groups to provide Oklahoma producers and processors technical marketing assistance.
- May work with the Foreign Agricultural Service of the United States Department of Agriculture and the United States Department of Commerce in the development of domestic and foreign markets for Oklahoma agriculture and related products. Assists Oklahoma producers in developing financial and other resources.
This job family consists of three levels which are distinguished based on the complexity of job assignments, the level of expertise required to perform assigned duties, and the responsibility assigned for the leadership of others or the management of assigned functions.
Level I: Code: L13A Salary Band: I
This is the basic level of this job family where employees are assigned duties and responsibilities involving beginning level professional work in a training status to build their skills in conducting market development activities for various agricultural products or services. In this role they will assist higher level coordinators in completing more advanced or complex assignments, prepare and gather research information, assist in the development of industry directories and promotional materials, prepare and set up exhibits at various meetings and trade shows, and perform other related tasks as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities required at this level include knowledge of the agricultural industry in Oklahoma; of advertising principles and practices; of promotional activities regarding agricultural products; and of effective public relations. Ability is required to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others; to follow instructions; to exercise independent judgment; and to express ideas clearly and concisely.
Education and Experience requirements at this level consist of a bachelor’s degree in agriculture or a closely related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience, substituting one year of experience in marketing agricultural commodities or value added processed products for each year of the required education.
Level II: Code: L13B Salary Band: K
This is the career level of this job family where employees are assigned duties and responsibilities at the full performance level for performing a full range of tasks involving agricultural promotional and marketing activities. This includes promotions at trade shows and fairs, directories, promotional campaigns, in store promotions, cooking demonstrations, direct marketing assistance, and other activities to expand and open domestic and international markets for agricultural products and services.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities required at this level include those identified in Level I plus the ability to conduct several projects simultaneously and to evaluate information and alternatives and select an appropriate course of action.
Education and Experience requirements at this level consist of those identified in Level I plus one additional year of qualifying experience.
Level III: Code: L13C Salary Band: M
This is the specialist level of this job family where employees are assigned responsibilities for performing advanced level work in planning, organizing, and implementing multiple or complex marketing programs, including serving as project leaders, developing work activities and budgets for assigned programs, and directing or supervising the work of other coordinators assigned to assist in implementing assigned programs.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities required at this level include those identified in Level II plus knowledge of business administration functions and techniques; of domestic and international marketing strategies; and of program evaluation techniques. Ability is required to carry out several projects simultaneously; to evaluate ongoing programs to ensure compliance with established guidelines or to enhance effectiveness; and to develop comprehensive marketing plans.
Education and Experience requirements at this level consist of those identified in Level II plus one additional year of qualifying experience.
