Oklahoma City’s John Duong Graduates from the Oklahoma School for the Blind

MUSKOGEE, Okla. — Oklahoma City native, John Duong, graduated from the Oklahoma School for the Blind at 1:00 p.m. on May 18th at 3300 Gibson St, Muskogee in the OSB Auditorium.

Duong is the Salutatorian for this year’s class. His activities during his time at OSB include the Jazz Band, wrestling, Goalball, FCCLA member, Boy Scouts, Student Council, Teens for Christ, Running Club, and Track and Field.

He was the Student Council Vice President for his Junior year and Student Council President in his Senior year.

He is the son of Cindy Tran.

This year’s graduating class also includes Jerelyn Black of Stillwater, Lydia Bradley of Stilwell, Audrey DeBrosky of Enid, John Duong of Oklahoma City, Tyler Duong of Oklahoma City, Miracle Jones of Spiro, Benjamin Middleton of Asher, JaceLynn Shields of Claremore, and Blazen Sitterly of Ponca City.

“Each year, I am amazed at the accomplishments of our students,” Rita Echelle, OSB superintendent, said. “This year’s senior class is no exception.

“I am proud of each and every student in the senior class of 2022. I look forward to seeing where the future takes them. I know they will do great things.”

OSB is a division of the Oklahoma Department of Rehabilitation Services (DRS), a state agency, which assists Oklahomans with disabilities through vocational rehabilitation, education, employment, independent living programs and the determination of medical eligibility for disability benefits.

OSB was founded in 1897 at Fort Gibson as a private school for children who are blind or visually impaired. Over the past 100 years, the school has provided education programs at no charge for thousands of students with visual disabilities, from students who attend school on campus to those served through outreach programs for families, public school teachers and communities statewide.
