School for the Deaf to host Great Plains School for the Deaf tournament February 6-8
SULPHUR, Okla. – Oklahoma School for the Deaf will host seven teams for the Great Plains School for the Deaf basketball and cheer tournament February 6-8. The public is invited.
OSD is located at 1100 East Oklahoma Avenue in Sulphur.
A total of 280 students and coaches are expected to attend the tournament from New Mexico School for the Deaf, Wisconsin School for the Deaf, Arkansas School for the Deaf, Kansas School for the Deaf, Iowa School for the Deaf, Minnesota School for the Deaf and Louisiana School for the Deaf.
“It’s an honor to welcome basketball players and cheerleaders from all these schools for the deaf every eight years,” OSD Superintendent Chris Dvorak said. “Our girls’ team is seeded No. 1 and our boys’ team is seeded No. 2, so it's possible that both of our teams could win basketball championships this year.”
Tournament sponsors are Sorenson, Relay Oklahoma and Gallaudet University.
Combo tickets, which cover the cost for all three tournament days, are $20 for adults and $15 for students and senior citizens. The cost of daily admission is $8 for adults and $5 for students or senior citizens.
