OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City resident Tracy Brigham was elected treasurer of the National Council of State Agencies for the Blind.

Brigham is administrator of Services for the Blind and Visually Impaired, a division of the Oklahoma Department of Rehabilitation Services. She has been employed with DRS for more than 21 years.

Organization members are directors from state-level rehabilitation services programs.

NCSAB officers will serve through December 31.

“The mission of NCSAB is to promote specialized services for individuals who are blind and visually impaired so they can achieve employment and independence,” Brigham said.

“In addition to informing the public about the benefits of available services, the organization conducts or sponsors research on blindness, and advises the U.S. Department of Education and Rehabilitation Services Administration regarding policy and program development and inter-agency cooperation that impact services.”

Brigham’s staff at Services for the Blind and Visually Impaired in Oklahoma provide statewide career counseling, vocational education and training, assistive technology and medical services that help nearly 1,300 Oklahomans achieve career and independent living goals every year.

Oklahoma SBVI programs also include the Oklahoma Library for the Blind, which mails free audio books to eligible patrons and provides accessible classroom materials for children and the Business Enterprise Program, which helps owner/operators who are blind operate food services businesses in government buildings.

The Older Blind Independent Living Program helps individuals adjust to vision loss and maintain their independence.
