New employees can also enroll in Supplemental Life in units of $20,000 up to a maximum of $500,000. Current employees who did not enroll when first eligible can enroll during the annual option period or within 30 days of a qualifying event, such as birth of a child or marriage.

Benefit Allowance

Benefit Allowance Helps Cover Costs
The state provides a benefit allowance to help pay for insurance premiums that would otherwise come out of the employee’s own pocket. The amounts provided are based upon the health election chosen.

Leave and Holidays

State employees receive generous paid annual leave benefits to cover absences for vacations or other personal reasons, as well as paid sick leave benefits to cover absences due to illness, injury or medical appointments. The amount of annual leave accrual begins at 15 days per year for new employees and increases incrementally after specified years of service, up to a maximum of 25 days per year. The amount of sick leave accrual is a constant 15 days per year regardless of length of service. State employees are eligible for 11 paid holidays per year.

Retirement

DRS employees hired prior to November 1, 2015 are enrolled in a defined benefit pension plan, which promises its members a lifetime retirement benefit when the member meets certain eligibility requirements. In addition, such employees are also entitled to contribute to a Deferred Compensation Plan (457 Plan) and a Deferred Savings Incentive Plan (401(a), which collectively are referred to as the SoonerSave plan. For more information about SoonerSave.

Employees hired on or after November 1, 2015 are enrolled in a defined contribution plan for state employees. In a defined contribution plan, no specific benefit is promised to a plan participant. The participant is primarily responsible for making contributions to the plan and managing those assets in order to produce a source of funds available during their retirement years. The state defined contribution plan is referred to as the Pathfinder plan. For more information about Pathfinder.
