Elderly / Disabled

A Household member meets at least one of the following criteria:

  • 60 or older
  • Receives SSI / disability / blindness payments, including interim benefits pending receipt of SSI, under the Social Security Act
  • Receives Medicaid benefits based on categorical relationship* to disability
  • Receives a federal, state, or local public disability retirement pension with the disability considered permanent under the Social Security Act. Verification needed if it is not obvious to the worker
  • Receives a Railroad Retirement disability annuity from the Railroad Retirement Board and qualifies for Medicare (verification provided by the household)
  • Is a disabled veteran who meets one of the following conditions:
    • Receives 100% disability benefits, can be compensation or pension. A statement from the VA must be provided that states this
    • Considered by the VA to be in need of regular aid or permanently homebound. Proof that the client is receiving VA disability benefits is sufficient verification
  • Is a surviving spouse of a veteran who meets one of the following conditions:
    • Considered by the VA to be in need of aid or permanently housebound
    • Considered permanently disabled under the Social Security Act and receives or is entitled to VA compensation or pension benefits
  • Is a surviving child of a veteran and meets one of the following conditions:
    • Considered by the VA to be incapable of self-support
    • Considered permanently disabled under the Social Security Act and receives or is entitled to VA compensation or pension benefits
