Issuing Benefits for Households Entitled to Expedited Services
When you determine that a household is eligible for expedited service and postpone verification, you will certify the household for one or two months. If the household applies between the:
- 1st and the 15th of the month, you will certify the household for one month.
- 16th and 31st of the month, you will certify the household for two months.
The systems (FACS / IMS) will prorate the initial month's benefits if the household applies later than the first day of the month. Sometimes, the proration causes an error in FACS as the case would issue less than $10 that month. If this is the case, you will deny the benefit for the application month and certify the expedited benefit for the following month.
If coded for expedited benefits, the client's initial month's benefits issue immediately after you certify the application. When you certify food benefits for a two-month period, the second month's benefits will issue on the first day of the second month.
