Shared Utility Costs

Sometimes multiple households live on the same property or in the same domicile. If only one of these households pays the bill, they would be eligible for the deduction and the others would not. If multiple food benefit households are partially responsible for the utility bills, each household will receive the full deduction. The utility bill doesn't need to be addressed to both households.

If a client has a landlord who bills the client for rent and an additional payment for utilities, rather than having the clients put the utilities in their names, the client is eligible for a utility allowance. If the client is billed for heating / cooling, give the SUA. If they are billed for other utilities but not heating / cooling, give the BUA.

If a client resides in rental units with utilities included in the rent but are liable for excess utilities are entitled to BUA.
