Certification of Fewer than Three Months
If a client was certified for less than 3 months and applies by the 15th day of the last month of certification, they should be processed within 30 days (if eligible).
Certification of Three Months or More
If a client was certified for 3 months or more and applies by the 15th day of the last month of certification, they should be processed by the end of the month (if eligible).
In order to retain the right to uninterrupted benefits, the household must have completed an interview and provided all necessary verification before the end of the month. If either is done late, the client loses their right to uninterrupted benefits, but is still eligible for the standard 30 day processing timeframe.
A client who has been interviewed but requires verification is eligible for a second 30 days. Just like in initial applications, when the client provides verification in the second 30 days, you should certify the case for the date that the final piece of verification is provided – this will prorate the SNAP amount for that month.
Occasionally, due to worker errors or system errors, a case will fall through the cracks and not be certified timely. If the client applied timely and is determined to be eligible, you should certify them immediately. If this happens after the first, you should process the case effective the first so that the client receives all their owed benefits.
Clients in the process of completing a certification renewal are not eligible for expedited services. Benefits are issued as normal if completed before the first of the month or issued on the day certified if on the 2nd or later.
