Certification Periods

Every SNAP household is assigned definite certification period. A certification period is the maximum number of months that a household can receive benefits based on their most recent application.

At the end of a certification period, need for food benefits must be reestablished with a new application and interview.  This is called a certification renewal (CR). Under no circumstances can you continue benefits beyond the end of the certification period without a CR.
