Length of Certification Period

When processing an initial application, you will be responsible for assigning the longest certification period possible based on the predictability of the household's circumstances.

Possible Certification Periods for SNAP
One Month Households only eligible for the application month
Migrant farm households and SEOs who apply before the 16th of the month
Two Months Households only eligible for the certification month and the next month
Migrant Farm Workers and SEOs who apply on the 16th or later
Three Months Clients not exempt from ABAWD work requirements who have all of their three K months and are not prorated
Four Months Clients not exempt from ABAWD work requirements who have all of their three K months and are prorated
Twelve Months All other SNAP cases that do not meet one of the above and is not a household of elderly / disabled members with no earned income
Twenty-four Months Only for households where all adult members of the home are elderly / disabled and have no earned income

When an ABAWD is exempt from or meeting ABAWD work requirements, assign the household a 12 month certification period.  Be sure to check the person's ABAWD status at mid-certification renewal.
